This interior renovation project, located in the Rosemont-La Petite-Patrie neighborhood in Montreal, has the particularity of being a multigenerational residential project. In fact, it was the buying decision of two generations of the same family who wished to spend time together and share everyday life.
Interior design renovation for a multi-generational duplex
Frédric Clairoux, the firm’s lead designer of Clairoux personally committed to this family interior renovation project. The mandate was simple: to create a luminous apartment full of memories from summer vacations in Cape Cod. This was a happy coincidence because Frédric studied in this Atlantic region and had designed several beach houses. This stroke of luck set the tone for our involvement, which was to the great pleasure of both parties.
The decoration plan for the duplex’s upper story was redesigned to promote more natural light at all hours of the day. The creation of several openings between rooms enabled new movement patterns by eliminating the typical, monotonous hallway.
A workshop-style kitchen
The “Workshop” style was used with classic and noble materials like wood, slate, and marble. Renovated in this way, the kitchen is more functional, luminous, and friendly. The following is a list of the indispensable aspects of the workshop style in New England:
- Montauk slate flooring (various formats)
- White shaker kitchen cabinets
- Bianco Carrera marble counters
- White subway ceramic backsplash
- Cast iron apron sink
- Nickel finish faucet and hardware
- Added wood surfaces
- Added shelves for artifacts and souvenirs, a pantry, kitchen appliances, and so on
A Cape Cod bathroom
Not a flashy interior design, this bathroom is an homage to Cape Cod classics and provides the clients with a fresh and serene space.
Inspirations from the bathroom overlooking the bay:
- Black and white marble mosaic floor
- Shaker-style cabinets (as always) or refurbished cabinets painted white
- Paneling on the wall
- Wall sconces and white glass on both sides of the mirror
- Addition of wicker (natural fibre)
The renovation was carried out in record time, partly due to the general contractor’s clear understanding and his team’s effectiveness. The Syms residence is an excellent example of our flexibility and desire to improve the quality of everyday life for users.
